Accountant

Job Overview: The Commercial Real Estate Property Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial transactions and reporting for commercial properties within our portfolio. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in commercial real estate accounting and will be adept in using industry-specific software. This role will require frequent interactions with property managers, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Compile and analyze financial information in preparation for entry into various financial statements and accounting reports.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure accuracy of financial reports and ledgers.

Account Management:
• Handle receivables, post them to tenant ledgers in YARDI, and monitor collections of past-due accounts.
• 
Conduct monthly bank reconciliation for all cash deposits, ensuring discrepancies are addressed promptly.
• 
Monitor all banking activities for irregularities.
• 
Review and approve vendor invoices for property number, coding, description, and approvals.

Budgeting & Forecasting:
• Assist in the development of annual budgets and reforecasts for properties.
• 
Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels.
• 
Collaborate with property managers for on-time reporting and to ensure expenditure control.

Compliance & Controls:
• Apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for all accounting tasks.
• 
Maintain and coordinate accounting control procedures.
• 
Act as a liaison for internal and external audits, providing necessary information and answering questions to ensure a timely audit completion.
• 
Ensure company assets, including intellectual property, are protected by keeping information confidential.

General Administration:
• Maintain accounts, ledgers, journals, files, reports, and other documentation for property and company accounts.
• 
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including property managers and project managers, on financial matters.
• 
Handle ad-hoc reporting and accounting projects as necessary.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
• Minimum of five years of experience in commercial real estate accounting.
• 
Proficiency in using commercial real estate software, especially YARDI.
• 
Strong understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of real estate finance and investment.
• 
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with MRI software.
• Prior experience in handling a portfolio of commercial properties.
• 
Strong networking skills with other professionals in the field such as brokers, CPAs, lawyers, etc.

Compensation: Salary range will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Independent contractor status (1099)
